What is Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 at HYMS

At Hull York Medical School (HYMS), Microsoft 365 supports email, calendars, file storage, collaboration and online teaching. Below are the main applications you’ll use as part of your studies or work.

Core Microsoft 365 Apps

  • Outlook – email and calendars
  • Teams – teaching, meetings and collaboration
  • OneDrive – personal cloud file storage
  • SharePoint – shared resources and course materials

Your HYMS Microsoft 365 Licence

As a HYMS staff member or student, you receive full access to the Microsoft 365 suite. Your licence includes:

  • 1 TB of personal cloud storage via OneDrive
  • 50 GB Outlook mailbox
  • The ability to install Microsoft 365 apps on up to 5 devices (PC, Mac, tablet or mobile)

All applications and services are available online, with the option to install desktop versions if preferred.


HYMS staff with an Honorary or Other Contributor IT account are not licensed to install the Microsoft 365 desktop apps. However, they can still access all Microsoft 365 applications through the web browser.

Access your Hull York Medical School Microsoft 365 account by logging in to https://www.office.com with your HYMS account (your username in the form hy***@hyms.ac.uk)

Downloading Microsoft 365

Your Hull York Medical School Microsoft 365 account allows you to install Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc) on up to 5 computers (PC or Mac). For further information please see Installing Microsoft 365 software on PC, Laptop or Mac
