Guide overview
The EchoVideo mobile app allows you to access lecture recordings, presentations and other learning materials from your mobile device. This guide explains how to:
- install and log in to the EchoVideo app
- access your course content
- view recordings and presentations
- bookmark important content
Install and log in to the EchoVideo app
The EchoVideo mobile app is available for both Android and iOS devices.
- Android: Download from the Google Play Store.
- iOS: Download from the Apple App Store.
The app provides a consistent experience across both platforms, although some screens may vary slightly.
To log into the EchoVideo app, follow these simple steps:
- Open the EchoVideo app.
- Enter your Hull York Medical School email address (in the format hyxxxx@hyms.ac.uk) and click on Sign In.
- Sign in using your HYMS Microsoft 365 account when prompted.
- Complete the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) process if required.
Once authenticated, you will be taken to the Home page of the app.
Home page
The Home page provides quick access to recently viewed content, allowing you to continue watching recordings where you left off and easily find classes you haven’t yet viewed.
Access content via the EchoVideo app
To access your module content:
- Tap Curriculum.
- Select the course you wish to open.
- Choose a class from the list.
- Open any available recording, presentation or other published content.
If required, use the Sort option (top-right) to organise classes alphabetically.
Important: If you cannot see a module in the app, first access the Echo area within the relevant Blackboard course. This will ensure the course appears within the EchoVideo app.
Watch recordings and presentations
Selecting a class opens the classroom player. Depending on what has been published, you may see:
- a video recording
- presentation slides
- both video and presentation content together
If multiple video channels or views are available, use the Channel Selector to switch between them.
Playback controls
While viewing content, you can:
- play and pause recordings
- rewind and fast-forward
- change playback speed
- adjust video quality
- view closed captions or subtitles (where available)
These options can be accessed from the player controls and Settings menu.
Viewing on mobile data
For the best viewing experience, we recommend using a Wi-Fi connection when streaming recordings. This helps avoid excessive mobile data usage and generally provides a faster, more reliable connection.
Notes
While watching a recording or presentation, use the Add (+) button to create notes associated with a specific point in the content.
You can:
- create notes
- review existing notes
- edit notes you have created
Notes are linked to the playback position, making it easy to revisit key learning points.
Bookmark important content
The player toolbar includes tools that allow you to mark important moments while viewing recordings. Use Bookmarks to save specific points within a recording that you may wish to revisit later.
When a bookmark exists at the current playback location, the bookmark icon will be highlighted.
