Overview
This guide is only for users who currently use SMS (text messaging) or receiving a phone call as their primary method of MFA
Microsoft are removing text (SMS) and phone call based authentication. Therefore HYMS will require all staff and students to register and use Microsoft Authenticator by Monday November 30 2026. Otherwise you will lose access to your HYMS account.
To this end if your HYMS Account doesn’t have Microsoft authenticator app setup for authentication you will be subject to a registration campaign to add it.
We therefore ask you to:
- Download the App: Install the free Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Click to Improve your sign-ins and add Microsoft Authenticator authentication when asked as detailed below in step 4.
Steps to register Microsoft authenticator app
- Login to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/ and enter your password – Click Sign In.
- Verify your identity – Click the text option.
- Enter the code that was sent to your phone.
- You will now see the screen below – Click Next
- If you have not already done so Install the MS Authenticator App to your phone – Click Next.
- Once installed – Click Next.
- Open The MS Authenticator App – Click Add account – Select “Work or School” – Select “Scan QR code”.
- You’ll then be prompted to test the new authentication method – Enter the code displayed on the screen into the MS Authenticator App.
- When you have successfully authenticated you will see the the screen below.
