Connecting through Global Protect VPN Software
To connect to the VPN you can either:
Find the GlobalProtect icon in the system tray beside your clock
If you don’t see it straight away clock the arrow to show hidden icons
Alternatively
Press the windows key and type Global and then click on the GlobalProtect icon.
When the app is open click on the “Connect ” button and then in the next window enter your university username (abd123) and password and click “Log in”.
Next you will be asked to provide your Duo two factor authentication.
Once you pass the Duo process your VPN will be connected and the icon will be changed to a blue globe with a tick
Disconnecting
It is best practice to disconnect from the VPN at the end of the day or finished the task that required it.
Click on the icon in the system tray
The GlobalProtect box will appear and you can click “Disconnect”
Azure Virtual Desktop
Open your Browser and navigate to https://vds.york.ac.uk/
When ask to sign in enter your University of York account (in the format firstname.surname@york.ac.uk) and then click next
You will now be prompted to enter your password and you will you will be asked to provide your Duo two factor authentication
When using Azure Virtual Desktop you have the option of either using the Web Client (which uses your web browser), or installing client software. Our recommendation is to use the Web Client, as this is the quicker option.
Once signed in Select the “HYMS Student Support” desktop icon
The Student Support site will open in a separate window and will prompt you to login with your HYMS account credentials.
