This guide will explain
- what Eduroam Wi-Fi is
- what credentials (username and password) you can use to access it and where you can connect
- how to set up an Eduroam connection on your device (such as laptop, tablet or phone).
What is Eduroam Wi-Fi?
User credentials (username and password) required to connect to Eduroam Wi-Fi and connection locations
It is possible to connect with Hull York Medical School credentials, as well as York and Hull University credentials. Users can access Eduroam with these credentials wherever there is an Eduroam connection available.
It is possible to connect to Eduroam at York and Hull University campuses and some NHS sites. There are also many other locations nationwide where connection is possible. Please click on the following link to access the UK interactive map of available connections; Eduroam interactive map.

- Grimsby Hospital Education Centre

- York Hospital
- Castle Hill Hospital

Set up a connection to Eduroam Wi-Fi (York University Onboard tool or Eduroam CAT tool)
It is possible to set up your connection to Eduroam via the York University Onboard tool (HYMS or York University credentials) or Eduroam CAT (Hull University credentials or York University credentials). If you encounter any issues, you can choose between both methods.
Please use the University of York ‘Onboard tool’ to set up your Eduroam connection if you wish to connect with your HYMS or York credentials. The below example guidance refers to connecting with HYMS details. Connecting with Hull York Medical School credentials (example steps taken from an Android device)
- Please access the tool by clicking on the following link; https://onboard.york.ac.uk.
- Select the HYMS Staff / Student Option.
- Check the ‘agree to terms and conditions’ box and then click start.
Enter your HYMS username (in the format hyxxxx) and HYMS password. Click continue.
- Choose your preferred configuration option (to complete set up and connect or just complete set up to be ready to connect later).
- Download and run the Wireless Client software.
- Enter your HYMS username (in the format hyxxxx@hyms.ac.uk) and password. Click on next.
- Your device is now ready to connect to Eduroam and you will see the below success message.
Navigate to your device Wi-Fi settings to check for an Eduroam connection and to connect manually if required. You can also ‘forget’ a saved network by selecting a network for a few seconds until the option to ‘forget’ appears.
Please use the Eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool) to set up your Eduroam connection if you wish to connect with your Hull University credentials (also works with York University credentials).
- Please access the tool by clicking on the following link; cat.eduroam.org
You will be prompted to search for your organisation. Search for the relevant organisation, such as “University of Hull”.
- Follow the instructions to download the Eduroam installer and connect to Eduroam. Upon successful completion you will see a success message similar to the below.
- Navigate to your device Wi-Fi settings to check for an Eduroam connection and to connect manually if required. You can also ‘forget’ a saved network by selecting a network for a few seconds until the option to ‘forget’ appears.
