OpenCampus Portfolio Phase I: Problem Based Learning and Clinical Skills Peer Appraisal

This article will explain how to complete a Phase I Clinical Skills (CS) or Problem Based Learning (PBL) Peer Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form in OpenCampus. The Peer Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form is part of the Peer Appraisal process.

Students are required to complete the following forms as part of the peer appraisal process before the face-to-face meeting with their tutor:

  • A Peer Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form – for each member (peer) of their CS / PBL group.
  • A Self Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form – an appraisal of their own performance.
  • A Student Assessment of Tutor Professional Behaviours form – an appraisal of their tutors performance.

Please notify the Programme Delivery team (phase1@hyms.ac.uk) of any student who fails to fully participate in this activity.

  1. To access OpenCampus in your browser navigate to: https://opencampus.hyms.ac.uk
  2. Login with your HYMS username and password
  3. From the OpenCampus menu select Peer Review. This will take you to your Peer Review page where you will see a Peer Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form for each member of your PBL / CS group.

Please note that this will default to the CS Peer Review tab. You will need to click the PBL tab to view the forms for the PBL peer appraisal.

  1. Select edit next to the Peer Assessment of Student Professional Behaviours form you wish to complete. This will open the form. At the top of this form you will be able to see the following:
    • Student details – Name, Campus, Group and the Date the form was deployed.
    • An aggregated view of student feedback from their peers. Please note this feedback is anonymous.
    • The students’ self-appraisal form – an appraisal of your own performance.

  1. Complete the form by grading the student against the specified criteria.

You can prepare / complete this element of the form prior to the 1-1 meeting if you wish. To do this complete the form and click Save rather than Submit.

You can access your PBL student portfolios from the My PBL Group tab from the OpenCampus menu.

  1. Once you have completed the form click Submit.

On completion students will be able to see this in their portfolio. In order to complete the appraisal process, students must acknowledge that this feedback was a true reflection of the 1-1 discussion. Once the student has acknowledged this feedback, the appraisal will be completed. At this point the students feedback from their peers will be made available to them.
