Marking the phase II SSiP written assignment

The Phase II SSiP written assignment is marked online in the HYMS Blackboard via the grade centre. Please see the video tutorial or written guidance below.

The video refers to marking of the Critically Appraised Topic. The process is the same but with the Phase II SSiP written assignment there is no rubric to complete.

Thank you for your work in supervising and marking at HYMS – it is much appreciated!

Please do not mark work from Internet Explorer. This browser is no longer supported by Blackboard and use of this can result in many issues with marking work. Please see our guidance regarding Internet Explorer: blackboard and internet explorer 11 general guidance and troubleshooting

Written guidance

  1. Please log in to Blackboard. You will need your HYMS username and password. If you have difficulty logging in, please email help@hyms.ac.uk for assistance.
  2. From your Blackboard homepage, navigate to the appropriate course for the current academic year (Phase II Scholarship and Special Interest Programme).
  3. On the left-hand navigation panel of the course, click on grade centre, under course management.
  4. Click on Phase II SSiP Project submission: Written Assignment or Written Assignment (Returning Intercalaters Only)  from the drop-down menu that opens under grade centre.
  5. You will now see a table with a column listing all student names.
  6. Find the name of the student whose work you wish to mark. Find the corresponding column for the written assignment. Hover over the yellow exclamation mark (that indicates there is an essay to mark).
  7. From the drop-down menu select the latest attempt (the latest version of the essay uploaded by the student). If the student submitted more than one attempt on the same date the most recent submission will be at the bottom of the menu.
  8. You will now be directed to that student’s written assignment on the inline grading page.
  9. On the right side of the page you can also see hyperlinks to the student’s written assignment document, which can be downloaded.
  10. Grade the assignment by entering a numeric value into the pink attempt  box, to the right of the screen ( 4 = Excellent. 3 = Pass. 2 = Fail. 1 = Serious Fail).
  11. Provide feedback in the feedback to learner box.
  12. Now select submit to finish saving your marking.
  13. The page will automatically progress to the next student in the alphabetical list. Please note this may not be one of your students, so to return to the list of students, click on exit.

Thank you for your work in supervising and marking at HYMS – it is much appreciated!
