Written guidance

Please log in to the HYMS Blackboard. You will need your HYMS username and password. If you have difficulty logging in, please email help@hyms.ac.uk for assistance.

  1. From your Blackboard homepage, navigate to the appropriate course (HYMS MBBS Year 3, Year 4 or Year 5).
  2. On the left-hand navigation panel of the course, click on grade centre, under course management.
  3. Click on assignments under grade centre. You will now see a table with a column listing all student names, as well as columns for assignments on that course.
  4. Find the name of the student whose work you wish to mark. Find the corresponding column for the reflective essay. Hover over the yellow exclamation mark (that indicates there is an essay to mark).
  5. From the drop-down menu select the latest attempt (the latest version of the essay uploaded by the student). If the student submitted more than one attempt on the same date, the most recent submission will be at the bottom of the menu. You should now be directed to that student’s reflective essay on the inline grading page.
  6. On the right-hand side you can now complete the reflective essay marking rubric. Click on the small down-arrow, then the link to the rubric. You can also view the rubric from a pop-out window.
  7. Once you have completed the rubric and entered comments in the feedback box, please click on save rubric (the same also for the pop-out window view). You do not need to give an overall grade for this assignment.

Please notify the Academic Lead for Professionalism (demian.whiting@hyms.ac.uk) of any student who receives one or more ‘Serious Fail’ grades or two or more ‘Fail’ grades for the three categories within this rubric.

  8. Now select submit to finish saving your marking
  9. The page will automatically progress to the next student in the alphabetical list. Please note this may not be one of your students, so to return to the list of students, click on exit.

Thank you for your work in supervising and marking at HYMS – it is much appreciated!
