How to Access Blackboard

This article will detail how to access Blackboard – the school’s centrally supported virtual learning environment (VLE). A simple definition of a VLE is ‘a collection of integrated tools enabling the management of online learning, providing a delivery mechanism, student tracking, assessment and access to resources’ (JISC).

Blackboard is the system used by staff to deliver online learning resources and it’s the main technology used by students to support their studies. At HYMS’s Blackboard is used as a primary method of communication, for formative and summative assessments and to facilitate collaborative online learning activities.

Blackboard can be accessed from anywhere with an Internet connection. We recommend using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browsers on a Windows or Mac computer to access the VLE.

Access Blackboard

  1. Go to
  2. Enter your HYMS username (hy****) and password.

  1. Click on the Login button.
  2. Once you have logged into Blackboard, you will see the Homepage.
