As we all know Covid has forced a change in the way we use video conferencing across the wider HYMS patch and the Lifesize equipment that we invested in some years ago no longer feels fit for purpose and doesn’t integrate with the new personal video communication tools (MS Teams and Zoom) that the Medical School, our parent Universities, and the NHS have now adopted. As a result we will decommission our use of Lifesize technology and where appropriate replace this equipment in our teaching and meeting spaces to ensure we meet our current and future needs.
Timeline for decommissioning the Lifesize service
In preparation for our return to campus and also for the start of the 2021/22 academic year we will be switching off the Hull York Medical School Lifesize service on the 31st July 2021.
Removal of Lifesize equipment
Some HYMS sites have independently taken the decision to remove their Lifesize equipment (and have already done so) and have replaced this equipment with webcams and microphones that can work with MS Teams & Zoom. We will also be removing and replacing the Lifesize equipment at the University of York in the coming weeks (so prior to the 31st July 2021). Similarly, we will be working with the teams at our partner NHS sites to support the removal and replacement of the Lifesize equipment in the coming months.
What does this mean for me?
If you are currently using the Lifesize Cloud system for web-based video conferencing meetings you can continue to do use this up until 31st July 2021. We will be switching off the service and removing all accounts after this date. Also, please note that the Lifesize hardware installed at many HYMS sites will be removed prior to this date (so please check with your local site or contact email@example.com if you have any queries about availability).
